On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the hotel (~25 mins transfer). Our friendly staff is on hand to provide any advice or assistance as you settle into your surroundings. The hotel as an excellent restaurant and bakery/coffee house.
You will meet your Guide at a pre-arranged time in the hotel’s Reception. He will run through various aspects of the trek, making sure that you are prepared. He will also provide the timings for tomorrow’s departure to Lukla. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore and make final preparations.
An early start for your domestic flight to Lukla. Enjoy a late breakfast in Lukla whilst watching the flights come and go from this unique mountain airstrip. Begin trekking, Lukla (2840m) – Monjo (2835m).
Today is an easy 5 – 6hrs of trekking through the village of Phakding en route to Monjo where you will stay the night with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
The entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park is just on the outskirts of Monjo (checkpoint for Permits) and once through that, it is a steady hour following the river before you cross the final of 7 suspension bridges and begin the 90 min steep ascent up to Namche. This is the first of the ‘big’ hills so take it steady. You will catch your first glimpse of Mt Everest in the distance from a rest point (weather permitting). Namche Bazaar is by far the biggest village in the region with shops and even internet cafes. Expect to arrive around lunchtime. 4 hrs with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
Your Guide will take you out on a trek to a variety of places in the local region primarily to gain some additional altitude and assist your body in its acclimatisation process (trek high, sleep low) and see more of the stunning surroundings. The Everest View Hotel high on the ridge is a favorite; great view of Everest with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
Another acclimatisation day out to the village of Thame on the old Tibetan trading route. This may change depending on conditions and your Guide. It is very flexible and varied with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
A relatively easy trek out of Namche, contouring around the hillside with some superb views. There are a number of favoured rest stops either before or at the bottom of the long descent. The ascent up to Tengbouche takes about 90 mins. Famed for its hilltop Monastery (and perhaps the ‘German Bakery!), this village has one of the best views of Everest. The Monastery is certainly well worth a visit. Depending on circumstances, you may trek for another 20 mins down to Debouche for the overnight stay. 5 – 6hrs with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
After a final early morning look at the summit of Everest, it is time to turn around and head back to Namche. Tackle the big valley first before the contour route back into Namche. 5 – 6 hrs with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
The first few hours will be easy out of Namche back down the long hill to the high suspension bridge. The group will stop at some point prior to moving on to your overnight stop at Phakding. It may appear a short day but this also acts as a spare day should you need it. 4 – 5 hrs with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
This final section is approx 3 hrs and you will be elated to reach your final destination; well done. Plenty of time in the afternoon to explore Lukla and watch the aircraft come and go from this unique airport. 3 hrs with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Service.
An early start to have breakfast and be ready for your flight back down to Kathmandu. You should reach your hotel by midday; plenty of time to enjoy the facilities that Thamel has to offer. You can continue with any sightseeing, have a post trek massage (very inexpensive in Nepal), shop ‘till you drop or simply relax in one of the many cafes, restaurants, and bars soaking up the atmosphere with Breakfast Service.
